Specialist Medical Transport

Who The Client Is…

As a private secure transport company, SMT are responsible for transporting potentially violent and aggressive service users often on discharge from or admission to secure services or collecting detained people from the community.

The Challenge

Following some previous violence management training that failed to meet the clients needs in terms of quality and standards, SMT contacted us because of our model of training is the widely used GSA model.

They needed a very bespoke training programme that fitted in with the unique challenges they faced including how to support a person into the secure cell of the ambulance, and restraint in an enclosed space. What was very important to the client was the emphasis on de-escalation and preventing aggression from occurring due to the high risk environments.

Our Approach

We worked closely with the client and their staff to explorer exactly what the main challenges were, and then in conjunction with the GSA developed a specialist skill set for moving a person in to the cell compartment.

We also tailored our training syllabus to give the staff a set of physical skills appropriate to the risks they faced, supported by a series of theoretical sessions to bolster the staff teams knowledge around understanding violent and aggressive behaviours when dealing with vulnerable persons.

Our ongoing support to the company included policy reviews and updating documentation to ensure it fits with current requirements, guidance and legislation.
